The Most Fabulous Performers…Part One
Okay, I’ll admit to a certain amount of bias: it was very cool being on stage with Taylor Dayne and almost being in a selfie with her. (My custom Tiger Gown from Planet Pepper was excellent, and big…lol.) Night of a Thousand Gowns has always been a place to see amazing performers on and off the stage, and while I don’t yet know who we might see this year, there’s always something magical about seeing one of your favorite performers a foot in front of you. (We do know that Ian McKellen and Dustin Lance Black will be among the guests this year, but more on them later!)
This will be several blog posts, because there’s just so much, but today, let’s look at pop stars. (Many of the links below are to their actual NOATG performances!)
In 2013, we had Taylor Dayne. I’m going to say it again, that was pretty cool, and even more so after her set when she was asked to take a selfie with a fan for a $1,000 donation to our beneficiaries that night. She was extremely gracious and lovely and was a class act through and through.
We were also fortunate to have Chad Michaels, winner of RuPaul’s All Star Drag Race perform at Night of a Thousand Gowns in 2013!
I wasn’t there a few years earlier when Cyndi Lauper decided that she was going to sing a verse of True Colors a capella and without any publicity. We knew she was coming, and she’d hinted that she might sing, but actually having it happen? Magic. Spontaneous, glorious, magic.
Zelma Davis from C + C Music Factory and Crystal Waters rocked the house out in a pair of performances that took us back to the early days of ICNY: these ladies hadn’t aged and neither had the heat of their songs!
Stay tuned for more information about the fun at this year’s party, or get your tickets now!
